The Details

A world leading scientific research facility set within the heart of Oxford. Working with award winning architectural practice Hawkins Brown our task was to assist them in their interior design process and bring to life their vision within the six levels of the new building. Part of our success was our ability to produce complex shapes and patterns using CNC machining in-combination with our 3D design skills, this allowed us to create large scale samples for approval before commencing with final manufacture. We were awarded the complete package of specialist joinery and carpentry work, consisting of furniture, interior walls, stairs, doors, flooring etc. The five areas listed below really stand out and showcase the Quest quality of work.

Our Work

Valcromat wall panels (3x0.6m) with different colours were laminated and then cut on our CNC to create an organic flowing liquid pattern. A total of 90 were manufactured to create an amazing feature wall which can be viewed from all floors. The central staircase with a perimeter balcony which combines all floors was clad in acoustic perforated beech panels all manufactured in-house, the key challenge was working with the steel fabricators of the steel staircase to ensure the steel did not deviate from the tolerances required. The reception entrance is another stunning visual statement, an organic perforated flowing pattern 16m in length with 2.8m linear vertical strips. In addition, there are two hidden doors, a reception desk with folding glass doors. Curved steam beech soffit panels over 40m in length for each floor book matched to ensure a flow of grain. Free standing furniture for all floors, due to the large quantity the key challenge was to create standard design details to assist with manufacture and installation. On this particular project we decided to use the Cabineo connectors by Lamello as it allowed us to CNC from one direction only. Our desire to always please our clients with our high quality to attention to detail was our main success.
